My process begins with a walk in the woods. I link the narrative of deep time — a geologic timeline of Earth’s natural history — with contemporary concerns about climate crises.
For this series, I combine components from the natural and tech worlds to create a hybrid landscape assembled from upcycled and found objects. These assemblages are composed of foraged tree branches which I wrap with copper cable wires used to connect telephone landlines. I incorporate buttons, beads, rubber bands, floral tape, ribbons. I imagine an animated urban forest, filled with hieroglyphics and musical notations.
I focus my awareness of environmental concerns about sustainability and stewardship, while celebrating the beauty and exuberance of our natural world. I invite visitors to reflect on the essential role that trees play in our planet’s ecosystem.
